Question 6 Evaluation Draft
What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Throughout the process of making my music magazine I have
learnt various things about different types of technology some of which I have
never used before and some I have used from before and I can see clear
difference from when I started and when I finished making the music magazine
that my skills have developed and improved a vast amount. Many of the
technologies used have been exceedingly great and I really like using them such
as Photoshop and InDesign. The camera used to produce the shots of my front
cover and all the images used in my music magazine was a canon DSLR which I
have never really used and at first I did not know much about the camera
however I started getting used to it and learnt things like that aperture
control how much light goes into the lens and how shutter speed controls.
Things to check and ensure when producing a photograph is
that you need check the F stop, this is where how much light comes in, the
shutter speed this is to capture image quickly or slowly, white balance this is
the natural colours coming in and the flash icon on the camera and also the RSO
is changeable where you can make a bright or dark scenario. The best number for
good image is 100 or 200. Furthermore, to get more out of the camera you should
put in manual mode not automatic. Auto focus and Manual focus can be both
usable by any users. There is
Two backdrops which are black and white and you should be
5/6 feet away from the back.
Another piece of technology used was studio lightings and
this equipment is a very new to me and I have learnt several things about this
such as you connect the DSLR camera to it so when you take an image it will
make the lights flash equally so it will produce an nice image. The lights are
called Bowen lights and the soft boxes fuse to soften to create a natural
effect. Trinity lights can be changed to brighter light and softer lighting.
There are other lighting equipment such as hairline light, reflectors.
Photoshop is a technology which has been used majority of
the time when producing my music magazine for instance when taking my image
shots with dslr camera I then use Photoshop to enhance the image to make it
look more professional. In addition, Photoshop was the technology which I was
very comfortable and confident with as I have been using this software several
times in different occasion. Although, I knew how to work my way around
Photoshop I developed my skills even more allowing myself to improve producing
quality images and so on.
Blogger is a creative and interactive technology which is
useful to post things such as photos, your thoughts and feelings and also to
get views on things from other people. At first I did not know much about
blogger as I have never really used it but when I familiarised myself with the
technology I got used to it and started posting media coursework and updates of
my music magazine.
InDesign is another software which was used many times when
producing my music magazine and it was used to produce my double page spread
and contents pages. This technology was quite difficult for me to use as I
never really used it as much as Photoshop however, InDesign had margins which
enable me to align my text on the page and images evenly.
Furthermore, illustrator was another technology used in my
project and this was to produce the logo of my music magazine which is called
BGH magazine and BGH stands best grime and hip hop. Illustrator was rather
difficult to use but I had some help to know the basic the things of the
software such as creating a background for your logo and including which can be
modified.
Moreover, Prezi was an amazing and easy technology which was
used during my project and this was rather helpful in producing proposals as
you can make the presentation fun with animations and including images which
make the text more appealing. This taught me to how to add image, text and
video to the presentation and also this was the software which helped me to
plan music magazine.
Time toast was online timeline story to set deadlines and it
was creative and beneficial which helped me to organise and meet my deadlines
so I can be on top of work. Also taught me how to change the dates of the
deadlines allowing myself to develop my work and progress it even further.

Question 3 Evaluation Draft
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
The media agency which will publish and distribute my music magazine is Bauer media.
Bauer media is a division of the Bauer Media Group, Europe’s largest privately owned publishing Group. The Group is a worldwide media empire offering over 300 magazines in 15 countries, as well as online, TV and radio stations. Bauer Media is a multi-platform UK-based media Group consisting of many companies collected around two main divisions – Magazines and Radio - widely recognised and rewarded as being industry innovators.
The reason of picking Bauer Media as my publishing and distributing services is because they are involved in other music stations, magazines and channels which are rather successful. For example they are involved in Kerrang and 4MUSIC. This publisher is different from all the others because they are involved in various amounts of Brands such as Kiss Fresh, MOJO and Q etc. Although, they have many music magazine they don't have hip hop or grime magazines as why i am putting my magazine for this publisher.
Bauer media can appeal to a larger and diverse audience allowing to increase sales and a stable readership. By bauer media being my publisher and distributor they can advertise my music magazine on radio channels and on the tv channels which cross globally and as well as advertising online which is the most recognition it will get internationally helping the sales even more.

Question 2 Evaluation Draft
How does your media product represent particular social group?
The audience of grime and hip hop can be shown in the images of my front cover, dps and contents page with series of dark colours which gives the magazine a serious tone and feeling towards the genre. My media product represents a particular social group such as the young individuals and middle aged people i have done this by including various amount of colours for instance dark colours like black, purple and red. The language used throughout my music magazine is mainly due for the young individuals aged between 16-26 as it contain some use of informal language however, the double page spread is formal as it will interest the older audience. The audience of BGH magazine can also be shown through the young model as the clothing is really trendy and it allows teens and young individuals to pick up these new styles and be engaged to the magazine. The fashion sense of the magazine will influence more younger people such as teens to read the magazine and be more entitled to what they wear and find common trends.
The gender of the magazine is mainly for the males because as grime in the uk is a big thing and most of the top grime artists are males such as stormzy they talk about things such as crime and violence on the streets which don't really relate to the females. In addition, Hip hop is always a male influence as it has the same reason as grime. Although, there are female artists such as Nicki Minaj the majority is male which express explicit information. However, the colour scheme of black, red and dark purple will attract both genders males and females. The age of the audience is determined from the images used which expresses the ageing of the magazine which is mainly young people. However, the terminology used in the double page spread is formal which will attract older audience.
The social class of the magazine is middle and working class because of this is the fact that the language used in the front cover and contents is informal whereas the terminology used in the double page spread is formal. As grime is a big scene is the UK it mostly attract the working class due to the information the spread through their songs such as struggling at first but working there way up. On the other hand, the audience will be into club life and new technology which all consume a huge amount of money which aims at the middle class.
Question 1 Evaluation Draft
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My music magazine which is called BGH which stands for Best Grime and Hip-Hop. In addition, I used a variety of conventions which was influenced by my case studies XXL Freshman 2015 and Rolling Stone. My magazine develops and challenges forms of real media magazines. Firstly, my front cover follows conventions of XXL and the layout of the front cover is similar to an XXL magazine which was different from my original XXL magazine. Furthermore, the bold text applied on the side was followed from the XXL magazine as the text is rather clear, vivid and appealing. The image applied on the front cover was different from my case studies as they were image of a group of hip hop artists and an image, shot type of the face which included Dr.Dre and Ice Cube. Whereas, my image challenged this by including an image shot by my model crouching down.
Both magazines BGH and XXL also share similar genre which link to one another, allowing me to make my magazine look like a real music magazine and also show that my magazine follows the genres of hip hop and grime. The use of bold text in cover lines and masthead is similar to XXL and Rolling Stone as they allow readers of the magazine to read with ease and also to be appealing to the audience. The colour scheme of my music magazine BGH has similarities with my case studies which are XXL and Rolling Stone. The colour scheme of BGH magazine consists of purple, blue, red and black the reason for this is because red is the XXL logo colour so i wanted it to represent hip hop and in grime magazine there a lot of darker colours so i added purple to my magazine and black as it makes everything vivid and defining which allows the consumers to be engaged and i wanted it to look professional.
